ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Mafer Bandola is a Venezuelan bandola llanera player, self-taught composer, producer and community organizer. Mafer occupies a unique place as a performer, educator, and artist who has won multiple residencies and been the recipient of many grants for her work. With a grounded understanding of the bandola llanera (male-dominated) traditions, she focuses on bringing the instrument to a new artistic path through composition, performance, and improvisation. She has performed at institutions such as MassMoca, WOMAD, Womex, TED, TEDx, National Sawdust, and TinyDesk.
Invoking the sounds of 1960’s and 70’s Jamaica, saxophonist Anant Pradhan is carrying on the traditions of early innovators alongside one of Jamaica’s greatest percussionists, Larry McDonald, who calls Anant “the steward of our music going forward.” Pradhan, an official member of the current lineup of Jamaica’s legendary Skatalites, has honed his musicianship under some of the pioneers of both jazz & reggae music. A kindred spirit of McDonald, despite 50 years separating them, Anant Pradhan is a bona fide member of the next generation. The Anant Pradhan & Larry McDonald band embraces the uncharted. They perform with an explosive sound combining traditional Jamaican folk, roots, soul and reggae with the spirit and freedom of jazz.

Sneiveiss is a freelance musician, player of accordion and various other instruments (percussion, guitar, keys, winds), bandleader, conductor, teacher, arranger, composer and producer of creative content in the field of Yiddish music, traditional and contemporary.
