About the Artists:
DJ Rekha (born Rekha Malhotra) is a producer, curator, educator, and founder of “Basement Bhangra,” one of NYC’s longest-running club nights. They’ve performed in festivals, clubs, and community spaces worldwide. Their dynamic DJ sets incorporate South Asian Diasporic dance music with ears to a global sound that builds inclusive environments of joy. They have been featured on Broadway, NPR, Taste the Nation, Celebrate Brooklyn, and Central Park SummerStage.
DJ Ushka is a Sri Lankan-born, Thailand-raised, Brooklyn-based deejay & multidisciplinary artist traversing genres across global electronic club & bass music. She deejays from the perspective of a dancer, blending a wide range of diasporic club music from afrobeats to south asian rhythms, amapiano to dembow, jersey club to reggaeton, soca to dancehall, to electronic bass and more.
modrums (Morgan Greenstreet) is a producer, DJ, musician and journalist. Morgan currently produces and performs original music with Lollise (Botswana/NYC) Loboko (DRC/NYC) and Delasi (Ghana) and consistently DJs around New York City solo and as part of the Zona Libre party.
Cardamami began DJing in Oslo and has played for venues and radio stations everywhere from Seattle, New York, and London to Istanbul and Mérida. They are the co-host of Yalla Yeehaw, a party featuring Arab pop, bhangra, & other Southwest Asian, North African & South Asian sounds. From 2019–2022 they hosted a bimonthly radio show with Playground Radio called Spicy Trax.
Roshni Samlal (DJ Raat Ki Rani) is a tabla player, DJ and is the curator and producer of the Ragini Festival, which focuses on spotlighting the work of artists engaged in traditional folk and innovative arts within the further reaches of the South Asian diaspora, focusing on Indo-Caribbean aesthetics and historical inquiry. Her sound is rooted in her diasporic heritage as a Trinidadian immigrant during the 90’s, Global club, Bollywood, Chutney, Soca, Electronics, Dancehall and Dub.
